Jamie Jones'You can take the boy out of Wales, but you certainly can't take Wales out of the boy.' In 2007 Jamie accepted his offer to study at the Birmingham Conservatoire of Music studying euphonium, after one year studying there he decided to transfer back to his homeland to study at the world renowned Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Jamie started conducting the Rogerstone band aged 19 in September 2008. He is currently playing Euphonium in many ensembles in the local Gwent Music support service. He is studying under David Childs at the Royal Welsh College of Music of Drama in Cardiff, where he hopes to gain a degree in Music. Jamie is involved in a wide range of musical activities; he teaches as well as directing ensembles. Jamie is an active member of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales, Usk Youth Brass Band and Greater Gwent Youth Brass Band, He has also played for the Abergavenny and Newbridge bands. Through his time in banding Jamie has played under the baton of many of Britain's top conductors, some of whom are: Dr. Bob Childs, Nicholas Childs, Philip Harper, Ian Porthouse, Nigel Seaman, Steven Mead, Richard Evans, Russell Gray, Ray Farr and Nigel Boddice. Jamie now enjoys conducting the band and also helping out playing for and conducting other bands in the local area. In Jamie's first year of conducting Rogerstone, the band achieved the following accomplishments:
"I'm enjoying every moment as the MD of Rogerstone, they are a great bunch of people and fantastic musicians. I look forward to a long spell with the band and very much look forward to learning and gaining as much as I can from the whole experience." Jamie was delighted to see the band crowned Welsh Champions of the First Section. The band is now looking forward a productive new year and a promising contesting season in 2010. Contact Jamie |
